The Seventh Plenary Meeting of the United Nations Geospatial Information Working Group (UNGIWG) took place at the Instituto Geografico Militar (IGM) in Santiago, Chile, from 2 to 4 November 2006, convened by WFP and FAO. Forty eight experts attended the meeting representing UN agencies, UN missions, and different Industry Partners and Institutions. A large part of the meeting was dedicated to the fruitful discussion on UNSDI initiative and its development, the way forward and its implementation.

A large part of the meeting was dedicated to the fruitful discussion on UNSDI initiative and its development, the way forward and its implementation.

Two case studies and two new projects were presented, and a workshop on standards in action was also held. A total of 20 Posters were presented from various UN agencies, the private sector and other public and private participants.

The meeting was co-hosted with the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI) coinciding with their 9th Annual International GSDI Conference (3 – 11 November), whose theme was "Spatial Information: Tool for Reducing Poverty".
