1.  The  following  UN-SPIDER workshops are confirmed for 2007: the "United
   Nations  International  UN-SPIDER  Workshop: Space-based Information and
   Solutions  for  Disaster  Management  and  Emergency  Response" in Bonn,
   Germany;  the  "United  Nations/China  Regional  UN-SPIDER  Workshop" in
   Guangzhou,  China; and the "United Nations/Sudan International UN SPIDER
   Workshop:  Space-based  Solutions  for Disaster Management and Emergency
   Response" in Khartoum, Sudan.

2. The University Network for Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa (UNEDRA) is
   organising  an  International  Workshop  on “The use of regionally owned
   space  infrastructure for disaster management in West and North Africa –
   status  quo  and  prospects”  on  15-16  October 2007 in Abuja, Nigeria.

3. The Italian Space Agency (ASI - Agenzia Spaziale Italiana) has posted on
   their  website  an “Announcement of Opportunity for the Demonstration of
   the  COSMO-SkyMed capabilities and exploitation for science and civilian

4. The German radar satellite TerraSAR-X, which was launched from Baikonur,
   sends first satellite images only four days after its successful launch.

5. The First Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction was
   held   in   Geneva,   Switzerland,   organised  by  the  United  Nations
   Inter-Agency  Secretariat  of  the  International  Strategy for Disaster
   Reduction  (UN/ISDR)  from  5  to  7  June  2007.  For more information:

6.  Call  for  Papers  for  the 12th Annual International Symposium: “Space
   Solutions  to  Earth’s Global Challenges” organised by the International
   Space  University (ISU) which will be held in Strasbourg, France from 20

7.  Call for papers - XXI Congress of the ISPRS in 2008 in Beijing – 3 – 11

8.  International  Charter  Space  and  Major  Disasters  – The Charter was
   activated  4  times  in  July,  twice by the National Disaster Reduction
   Center  of  China  (NDRCC)  for  the  extensive  floods  that  have been
   occurring in that country.

9.   2007 International Geohazards Week in ESRIN, Frascati, Rome (Italy) on
   5-9     November     2007.     The     registration    is    now    open

10.  UNOOSA  and  UNESCAP are jointly organising the 4th UN-wide Meeting on
   the  Use  of  Space Technologies for Emergency Response and Humanitarian
   Assistance  on  the  27th November 2007, which will be held back-to-back
   with  the  8th  UNGIWG  meeting  (28  –  30  November  2007) in Bangkok,
   Thailand.

11. The 4th Joint Project Team Meeting for “Sentinel Asia” - the Disaster
Management Support System in the Asia-Pacific Region - will be held from 5
– 7 September 2007 in Manila, the Philippines. The first Announcement of
