Objective
 |
Provide an overview of which organization
has what type of very high-resolution imagery over which areas. |
 |
Provide with satellite imagery purchasing
agreements that ensures easy ordering, rapid access and reduced cost to
data. |
 |
Expand the range and objectives for the
Space Charter to better comply with UN requirements. |
Activities
Satellite imagery and other
remotely sensed data are now an integral part of most
members’ geospatial analysis. This Task Group facilitates
finding and accessing very-high resolution imagery. It promotes sharing
and purchasing data through the UN Systems Contract and other
agreements in order to improve the use of same data among all UN
organizations.
 |
The UNOSAT
web site provides a database of images available whole UN
system. Currently populated with UNOPS Landsat and ASTER images, UN
organizations are invited to upload metadata about images they wish to
share with others, thus avoiding duplication of purchase. |
 |
Developing a UN Systems Contract for
purchasing satellite data. This contract ensures significant discounts
on a wider range of data and allows for multi-agency use of the data. |
 |
Developing an overview of which UN
organization has expertise in specific fields specialization within
Remote Sensing. |
 |
Global Landsat imagery from 1980, 1990 and
2000 has been provided free of charge to the UN in order to analyze
changes during the past three decades. |
